South Muskoka U15 Boys Win Gold At Ontario Cup

The South Muskoka Breakers U15 Boys Basketball Team took home the gold medal at the Ontario Basketball Association Ontario Cup, defeating York North by a final score of 44-29 in the championship game.

The tournament, which took place May 26-28, was held at three venues between Oshawa, Markham and Stouffville.

Nearly half of South Muskoka’s roster were under-aged players, and three players were in their first season with the Breakers program.

“Winning the championship was an amazing experience,” said U15 player Alex Wark. “Everybody whether they were on the court, on the bench or on the bleachers were super supportive. Our team really came together and fought as hard as we could to win.”

Breakers qualified for the gold medal game with an exciting and hard fought 53-48 win over Mississauga’s Jump Basketball. The Breakers used their speed and disruptive, pressure defense to nullify the Jump’s size and strength.

“I’m so proud of the way this team played”, said Head Coach Jan Olsson. “Our team draws from one of the smallest communities in Ontario, and to be successful, our players must commit to a system and play together as a team. This is truly one of the most rewarding seasons I’ve experienced as a coach.”
